is enlightment, mastering other requires force, mastering the self needs strength. He/She who knows has enough is rich, perseverance
is a sign of will power. He/She who stays where he/she is endures; to die but
not perish is to be eternally present.
Our
history >
Jiuwaithai was developed by Don David Méndez
in the 70s and finally baptized in the 80s. Don Méndez is a legendary figure
in Puerto Rico with
more than 30 years of fighting martial arts experience, an expert in fire weapons, hand to hand combat, and self-defense and
security methods.
He
has been the bodyguard of presidents, ambassadors, governors and other VIP (such as the 1st elected governor of
Puerto Rico, Don Luis Muñoz Marín). He was a student of
the late legendary teacher Takahama Sensei. One of the first Greco-Roman and
freestyle wrestling champions and Muay Thai fighter of Puerto Rico.
Member of the military and police intelligence departments.
In
the 60s and 70s Jiuwaithai was known as Pakuathai because of its closed relationship to Muay Thai.
At that time it was recognized as a Muay Thai system that combined Pakua concepts. Around 1965, Pakuathai began to incorporate more techniques of Takahama Sensei, Wrestling
and Jujitsu. From 1975-80 Filipino techniques and firearms were introduced to
the system. In 1993, Jiuwaithai became known as Jiuwaithai Submission Academy
®.
In
1999 the first Jiuwaithai Submission Academy ® was opened to the general public under the tutelage of Prof. Wilfredo Vázquez
Gómez, a student of Don Méndez with more than 15 years of martial art experience, a blackbelt in Jiuwaithai Jujitsu, Hokko
Ryu Jujitsu, Karate and Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai and arnis instructor.
In
2002, Don Méndez certified Prof. Wilfredo Vázquez as the head instructor of Jiuwaithai and as the person in charge of the
development of the system.
In 2003 Jiuwaithai Jujitsu was recognized
by international jujitsu community as a legitimate jujitsu system.
In 2004 Jiuwaithai
Jujitsu Hombu Dojo was founded in Fajardo-Puerto Rico and the Jiuwaithai Alliance was established.
Actually,
we are active members in good standing with several national and international jujitsu, judo, muay thai and karate organizations.
